Custom pet portraits are my specialty. Working in oils on canvas, I look to capture not only the likeness of the pet but the personality as well. Dogs and cats are the most common subjects I am commissioned to create but other animals from chinchillas to goats to parrots have been captured on canvas as well. I work from photos to create the portraits (see before and after examples below). The best photo to use is one that represents the pet in their everyday look and expression. I like to say when you close your eyes and visualize your pet; this is the image you should have painted.
Photos can be mailed, emailed or brought to my studio in Grass Valley. My website is helpful for customers to look at and let me know which paintings they are drawn to so I will have a good sense of what they would like in the portrait.
I email a photo of the painting when the portrait is about 80% complete. At this stage changes can be made if needed. The process takes anywhere from 12 -16 weeks for completion depending on my workload. If a portrait is needed sooner, I can create a card to be given as a gift with the pet’s photo on the card stating that the portrait is in progress.

Rescue
Since 1963, this small unique California zoo has been providing sanctuary to some very special animals. All are non-releasable. Many were raised, and rejected, as wild pets. Others were injured or orphaned in the wild. Most are native to North America. All have names and personalities, and their individual stories are posted at the exhibits, along with factual, up-to-date information about their species.The distinctive educational focus of the zoo promotes responsible and appropriate behavior toward all animals. The zoo teaches about common and uncommon animals, both wild and domestic, and includes those in between, like feral pigs and wolf-dog hybrids. Zoo programs stress that wild animals don’t make good pets.

This organization is responsible for, among other things, getting dog parks built in El Dorado Hills and Cameron Park. They meet the first Wednesday of each month at the Nugget Grocery Store in El Dorado Hills. Since I had experience with FIDO and the Folsom Dog Park, I decided to volunteer my time and help out these other cities. I'll be keeping you all updated with their progress. They need lots of volunteers for fundraising and construction, so please contact them if you're interested.

Bark is an all-volunteer group of therapy dogs who listen to elementary-age children read. BARK was started in September 2007 with three dogs and one elementary school. They have grown to 68 teams in 35 schools and libraries in LA and Orange Counties and one in Lincoln, CA. BARK also does one-time visits at various locations such as pet expos, book festivals, street fairs.
Therapy Dogs International, Inc. (TDI) is a volunteer organization dedicated to regulating, testing and registration of
therapy dogs and their volunteer handlers for the purpose of visiting nursing homes, hospitals, other institutions and wherever else therapy dogs are needed.
This is an animal-assisted therapy program involving volunteers taking their skilled therapy dogs and cats to visit individuals in nursing homes, hospitals, convalescent centers and schools or institutions for the mentally and physically handicapped. Many recipients of the program have difficulty in communicating with other people, but do respond to animals, which can be a positive step toward communicating with humans.
